Engines profiling

After engine profiling program will know following information about engine:

arrow engine speed (in cm/s) on every speed step on both directions (2x28 steps)
arrow acceleration and deceleration rate

During engine profiling program will run engine on track section (with known lenght) with speed 28 forward, then backward, then with speed 27 forward, then backward and so one untile speed 1.

To start engine profiling you must:

arrow prepare track for profile
arrow select from menu 'Engine' => 'Engine profiling' and go 3 steps

Prepare track for profiling

For engine profiling you need long track. On straight part there must be

arrow when using occupancy detectors: two sections with two occupancy detectors

arrow when using reed switches: two reed switches

Profiling track should so long enough so every train running with full speed could stop and accelerate to full speed in opposite direction (on both side of sections). Profiling track can be ring, but long enough to not unnesesery detect train on 'other end'.

We suggest to during profiling disable acceleration and deceleration (by setting CV3 and CV4 to 0 or by special decoder function key - e.g. Lenz - F3).

Step 1: Profiling place

On first tab profiling place should be defined. There can be more then one profiling place (e.g. for engines starting from left side, other for starting from right side)

For every profiling place following parameters should be defined:

arrow Name: profiling place name

arrow Starting sensor/section: select feedback item which send signal when engine appears on beginning of starting section.

arrow Ending sensor/section: select feedback item which send signal when engine appears on beginning of ending section.

arrow Distance for drive (drive forward): distance in cm measured:
- when using occupancy detector: between start of starting section and start of ending section
- when using reed switched: between reed switches

arrow Distance for drive (drive backward): distance in cm measured:
- when using occupancy detector: between end of ending section and end of starting section
- when using reed switched: between reed switches

arrow Delay before breaking (drive forward): distance for drive by engine after detected by second sensor (when drive forward) before start breaking and start drive backward. Because most often engine faster breaking then accelerating so engine must drive away from end of ending section.

arrow Delay before breaking (drive backward): like previous but distance to drive away from beginning of starting section.

Step 2: Select engine

On this tab on left side select engine and on right side type in acceleration rate (CV3) and deceleration rate (CV4).

If you read this CV from decoder using 'decoder programming' module they will be filled automaticaly

Additionally by pressing button 'Delete' engine profile can be deleted.

Step 3: Profiling

Next go to third tab, put engine on sufficient distance from start on beginning section (engine must accelerate to maximum speed before beginning of starting section) and press button 'Start'.

Engine will be accelerated to 28 speed step and after pass starting section program calculates speed in cm/s (and km/h) and show on left chart. Next (after delay before breaking) train will be stopped and run on opposite direction. In the same way after pass ending section program calculates speed in cm/s and shop on right chart. And so on with speed step 27, 26, 26 ... and 1.

Procedure can be stoped an any time by pressing 'Stop' button. Engine can be drive back (to move before starting section) by pressing 'Move back engine' and start again by pressing 'Start' button (starting from last speed step).

If speed step is so small then engine practically stops procedure can be finished by pressing button 'Engine doesn't move'. Program assume speed 0 for all rest speed steps until 1.

If engine have whole profile then one speed step can be repeat by selecting it on 'Step' list, selecting 'only one step' and pressing 'Start' button.

If you want to manually type in profile just press button 'Edit', select 'profile present' and type in speed in cm/s or km/h for every 28 speed step for both directions.
